Editing Note

My Premiere Pro timeline

I mostly used simple cuts throughout my film and a few fade in and fade out transitions when changing scenes or when opening the film sequence. I used two adjustment layers, one of them was used to add black cinematic bars throughout the film and the other one was used to add LUT in my film (SL BLUE MOON). I also used adjustment layers to add subtitles in my film. I used ambiance sound effects that fits well in my film. When Khursheed and Hamnah talk to Amjad to call when he is in shop, i used a lowpass bypass of 700 and a highpass bypass of 4000 to make them sound as if they are on a phone call. I color corrected and graded each shot separately. I made separate folders for audio and footage for both days, to organize everything and so it is not baffling.

I color corrected and graded each shot separately as lighting changed during every cut. I used writing and clock ticking sound effect to add in the ambiance and reduced the audio levels so it blends in well and dialogues are clearly heard while maintaining the background noises that is not very distracting. I used the same LUT throughout the film to give it a similar look, however i changed it’s intensity depending on the shot. I tried to go for a warm lighting throughout my film as it was the first scene had candle lighting and the second scene was shot with the help of natural lighting. Decreased the highlights in the second scene as they were way too much for my liking and did not suit the tone of my film. I also used door sound effect and the phone call sound effect when Amjad is in the room to make the audio more immersive. Reduced the levels of Amjad talking aggressively when he leaves the frame in the first scene and closes the door to show that he went away and added a door closing sound effect. With every dialogue between Khursheed and Amjad i did a simple cut showing they both are equally in power and no one is superior, however when the conversation occurs between Amjad and Landlord the camera is only on Landlord and there is not cut between their conversation showing that the Landlord is superior and in power. I used Zoom Mic audio for dialogues and changed their audio gain depending on the frequency of the pitch. I used background street noises to showcase that the area that his shop is in, is very crowded and there is a lot going on in the back, and adding to do non-diegetic sound element.

The pink layers in my timeline are adjustment layers, below that if my entire footage and underneath that in green and blue are my audio clips. I rendered my timeline after every adjustment so my footage plays smoothly without any abruption when i view it. And i used an input and an output point before exporting my film.

The ending of my film will leave the audience with many questions such as who to blame for this situation? Some may think Amjad is to be blamed who not only defaulted the rent but also intentionally misrepresented to the landlord saying that he will pay the rent, while he knew that he will not be able to pay it. Just because he wanted his daughter to get educated.

Some may blame the landlord who was deprived from the rent when rent fully belonged to him and not a victim of fraud and was aware of the fact that resorting to a legal way would take ages to solve the matter. Yet again does that justifies the illegal act of kidnapping?

Some may blame the wife of Amjad (Khursheed) who was not in favor of the education of her daughter because she knew that it was impossible for her husband to provide food on the table and educate the daughter at the same time and she did not want the family to end up on the street.

Some may blame the government, who sucks the blood of the poor in the shape of taxes yet fails to provide the basic necessities of life such as education.
